God is Greater Than I

This song is a simple exercise of God’s greatness. He reigns over our entire Universe and it is an important reminder to me, how small I am and how wondrous and awesome He is.

In those times when I complain and think things aren’t going my way, I try and remember that He is bringing good out of an abundance of chaos and confusion stirred up by the world around us. Even though the Earth has already been created and “it was good” and it was free of death in the Garden. But then man sinned which brought forth death, so now God is never finished. Creation is in the nature of His being. He is constantly bringing forth healing and directing His angels to thwart the attacks of the evil one.

God is love and therefore He never brings forth pain, sickness or destruction. He has allowed Satan to be the Prince over the Earth who orchestrates all hurt and destruction. Simultaneously, God has allowed man to have free will and choose our own paths; so it can never be said that God created “robots” to roam the Earth. Rather, He allows us to have dominion over our planet and even screw it up at will. He therefore, is in the business of allowing us to learn from our own mistakes via natural consequences, often fixing those mistakes through grace and mercy, in a way that we’ll understand His love and the purpose of our time on planet Earth.

Behind the Music

The title and the way it is written out with the “greater than” symbol was the whole inspiration for writing this song. I thought, “God > I” looked so cool on paper, and that evoked this idea about His wonder and greatness. Nothing else. Bob Huff took that idea and came up with a bold musical wall of guitars that symbolize God’s greatness.
